After 18 months of cancellations and postponements, living within our bubbles and looking at empty pages in our social calendars, the future is finally starting to look a bit brighter.
Our local pub, having hosted a successful May Bank Holiday music festival in 2019, was looking forward to making it an annual event. Sadly along with everything else in 2020 it was abandoned and the 2021 festival had to be postponed. But with restrictions lifted last month, and having refurbished part of their car park to an outdoor entertainment space, they were at last able to host the event.
And what a Harrowfest it was. For many it was probably the first live music event they’d attended, for such a long time and the majority of revellers remained at their allocated tables, within their known bubbles. But with the staff working incredibly hard to provide table service from the bar, we were all well cared for and kept well watered.
Three wonderful, local bands entertained us throughout the afternoon and into the evening. A few members of the crowd braved a dance, in front of the stage, probably for the first time in what seems like forever. The terrace and car park were full to capacity, but with tables for all, our personal first outing to a mass event, felt very safe.
Such a fantastic day, being able to enjoy a few pints, listen to some great music and spend time catching up with friends. It felt like being engulfed in a huge embrace.
The weekend pages of our diaries are gradually starting to fill again, with a few gatherings of family and friends and a family wedding 👰 to look forward to. We’ve even slotted in a few cheeky short breaks.
Life is tentatively returning to normality. Although I am not yet ready to board a plane and venture overseas, I am more comfortable to enjoy larger gatherings with family and friends and happy to explore more of what our wonderful country has to offer.
I think at last, confidence is growing, that we can live alongside this pesky virus and we can all start getting ready to live our lives again.
Happy Days
