The hubby loves a classic car show and the event held at Rye Rugby Club, has become an almost annual tradition for us. It’s not too far to travel, there’s plenty of parking and it’s a reasonable price. 👍
This year it fell on a particularly hot day, but with plenty of sun cream slapped on and water in our bags, we were good for a stroll. There are a few stalls, around the edge, selling car parts and tools, and as usual a new purchase ended up in my bag for him 🙄
There was a large variety of exhibits, all lined up in the centre of the field, their proud owners seated on their deckchairs behind their precious car, ready to tell anyone who enquired about their particular vehicle.
Many took us on a trip down memory lane, where as kids, cars had no seatbelts or air conditioning and you had to use a handle to wind the window down! A few reminded us of cars we’d owned and others, ones my hubby would like to have owned. We remember in the days before streaming, having cassette players in cars, but we had never seen one that played an actual record, until now 😳
Some had unique mascots, others playfully decorated for the show and one even brought a mini me. Most have been lovingly restored and highly polished. Even the ones showing their age, were being carefully protected from further deterioration, by their current owners.
Although I don’t have the same passion for cars as the hubby, I can appreciate the attraction and on a gloriously sunny day, it is a lovely way to spend a couple of hours, especially if you get to stop off on the way home for tea and cake 🍰 at The Orchard
