Fitbit vs Apple Watch

For the past few years I have been wearing a fitness tracker, to try to make myself get my bum off the sofa and do some exercise. It has worked a treat, making me feel bad if I don’t hit my 10,000 daily steps and motivating me to at least walk more if nothing else.

It is now looking a bit battered and could do with a new strap (of which I have a couple) However I decided to treat myself to an Apple Watch ⌚️and pass the fitness tracker over to Li Li to encourage him in his new zest for PE and cycling.

I have been wearing the new watch for around three weeks now, and although it does everything I need it to AND more, for the price, I’m still not convinced I’ve made the right choice 🫤

              Fitness Tracker vs Apple Watch

Battery    Charge lasts three weeksNeeds charging daily

Sleep Monitoring     Not very in-depth – Now I’m getting used to it, excellent but scary at how disturbed my sleep pattern is 🥺

Size    Nice and petite for my small wristMuch larger than I would have liked, but comfortable

Functionality    Very basic, tracked steps and sleep – More in-depth information, but is it too much?

Music    NoYes but I’ve only used it once

Texts and calls    NoUnfortunately yes, but I have deactivated the notification as I don’t want it flashing and beeping every time I get a message or email

It’s still early days and I have yet to explore fully all the Apple Watches functions. It’s too late to send it back so I’m hoping to discover more whilst I’m sunning myself by the pool in Italy 🇮🇹

All I wanted really is to:-

  1. Monitor my sleep pattern as I knew it was bad, but I’m hoping to work out what it takes to have a good nights sleep and what causes a bad nights sleep (apart from alcohol causing night sweats 😓)
  2. Let me know whether I’ve achieved my exercise goals and tell me when I’ve been sitting down too long 🛋

Both devices are good for my basic needs. The watch gives me a better view of my sleep pattern, which I hope, in time, will be of benefit if I can work out what’s causing the disruption. I can also monitor individual activities like walking and cycling, together with a daily total, rather than the fitness trackers basic daily step count.

If anyone else has upgraded and can give my some useful tips on the watch’s benefits I’d be very grateful.

Unlike the fitness tracker, I will need yet another charger to take away with us, as of course it’s not compatible with anything else 🤬. All the other functions are pretty much the same as my iPhone, so I’m hoping that I haven’t made an expensive mistake 🤦‍♀️.

Only time will tell.
