This time last year as I approached my 59th birthday, I started to contemplate how I could celebrate the next big birthday. After a suggestion from the Bestie, and with her help, I compiled a list of things I’d like to experience as I started the countdown to the big 60.

60’s Countdown

With the Bestie and our hubbies, 2020 started well, the four of us setting out to enjoy the last year of my fifties and ticking off half a dozen of those wishes in the first couple of months of the year.

But then the whole World ground to a halt and life had to be put on hold for a while. As we spluttered through the year, stopping and starting, not quite sure whether to turn the ignition key or put our foot on the brakes, I put thoughts of my wish list to the back of my mind, hoping that I might be able resurrect them as I hit 60.

Well today is the big day

Happy birthday 🥳 to me 🍾🥂.

I have left organising my day to the hubby and have no idea how I will be “celebrating”, but it’s certainly going to be more of a low-key affair, than I had anticipated. I’m sure, however that he, my family and friends will make it as special as they can in these mad times.

As I leave one decade and wrinkle my way into the next, the wish list has been put on the back burner, (maybe till I’m 65) as I’m anticipating life in 2021 will continue to chug along in the slow lane, any thoughts of forward planning feeling a bit of a risk.

I do however still have a few things I can look forward to:-

♦ 25% discount on glasses at a couple of opticians 👓

♦ Free prescriptions 💊

♦ Concessions at some Parks and Gardens 🌳

♦ Discounts at some London Theatres, when they reopen and if I want to go on a Wednesday! 🎭

♦ A small top up to my Company Pension 💰

As I become a fully paid up member of the Diamond Club, I have learned along the path of life, that it’s not the things you have, nor the things you do, that matter, it’s the people you have sharing the journey and the joy it brings as you spend time with them.

Life is an adventure and I’m looking forward to continuing the journey, once we regain our freedom and at whatever pace the World allows.
