After the hustle and bustle of the Fat Tuesday weekend, we turned our attention to a bit of culture, making our way to the local college for an evening of Italian inspired food and opera.
The college, as always, decorated the restaurant beautifully. Our large round table was perfect to enable us to catch up, with everyone in our party. Decked in a gorgeous black and white runner, our wine glasses held matching black napkins and the unusual black water tumblers completed the dramatic table arrangement. Just as well we’d ditched the jeans and put our glad rags on.

Being a party of 9, we had been asked to pre order our food, which was just as well, as unlike our Italian speaking friend, we had to ask Mr Google what a few of the dishes contained 🤭. Our cocktails and canapés were served and the feasting began. The five further courses had beautiful flavours and were presented well, although those of us who chose the pork found it a little overcooked and the mackerel, which I’m told was delicious, didn’t look too appealing to me. 🐟
In between courses the room was filled with arias from various operas, from Carmen to Madama Butterfly, La boheme to My Fair Lady. I was surprised by how many of the songs I recognised. Our glamorous singer had not only a beautiful, strong voice but a wonderful funny personality. She weaved her way around the tables, gently poking fun at her audience, with her gestures and facial expressions, as she serenaded us.
I wasn’t sure whether the college students were enjoying her performances, as they cleared the tables, dodging her as she strode around the room. However once the dessert dishes were removed many of them took the opportunity to take a short break, standing behind the bar, listening to her powerful voice, whilst of course videoing her on their mobiles 📱.
A fabulous evening. The students get to enhance their cooking and service skills, we get to enjoy some delicious food and an amazing operatic singer, whilst catching up with wonderful long standing friends.
Im not sure an entire opera is for me, although Carmen has been recommended by several friends, so for now it remains on my Countdown wish list.
Thank you Coast Restaurant for another lovely event evening.
We shall return.

We certainly will return 😁
