A few of my favourite things 🥰

The big kid in me has wanted to see Matilda the Musical, for a few years, but we had never got round to it. I was very happy when the hubby gifted me tickets for my birthday back in February 🎁 and one of our Granddaughters had also bought a ticket to join us.

Travelling to London for the day, the hubby had opted for a matinee in May. So I had a couple of months to wait, before, with a G&T in hand we took our seats in the circle.

We knew there would be children at the show, but we seemed to be surrounded, as several school parties also settled in to see the show. It could go one of two ways 😬

Actually apart from a bit of bobbing up and down, they were all very well behaved. All hail the teachers and support workers who dare to take so many children to London on a day trip 🙏

The set was very simple, yet very effective, cleverly converting from Matilda’s home living room, to the local library, which is her favourite place to hang out.

As she starts school and the stage converts to her new classroom, the desks pop up through the stage, like magic. The timid Miss Honey, who recognises her intelligence, is a stark contrast to the formidable Miss Trunchball, who just wants to quash all ideas of enjoying childhood.

The mini actors were incredible, bringing the stage alive with their energy and their fabulous voices. They danced, sang and swung us through Matilda’s story, being nurtured by the librarian and Miss Honey.

As her crooked parents, who have never understood her love of books, try to escape a gang they have attempted to defraud, by heading overseas, Matilda doesn’t want to leave and the lovely Miss Honey agrees to look after her. Yay 🙌

Matilda’s extra ordinary powers also ensure Miss Trunchball is ousted from the school and everyone can live happily ever after 🥰.

It is a great, funny, watchable musical. A lovely way to spend the afternoon.

Our Granddaughter had treated us to lunch at one of her favourite chicken restaurants, but now we had a couple of hours before our train, to enjoy one of our favourite things . . . . . . 🧀

Just a two minute stroll from the theatre in Seven Dials is a cheese lover’s heaven “Pick and Cheese” and on a Wednesday they offer a set price, for an hour and fifteen minutes of bottomless plates 🐷.

Based on a sushi style bar, we climbed up on our stools, ready to grab the plates of deliciousness as they attempted to trundle on passed us.

Each different cheese has the perfect accompaniment to enhance its flavour. One of my favourites is a Barkham Blue paired with a gooey Chocolate & Hazelnut Brownie 😋 But there are so many more from the Cornish Gouda, with a piece clotted cream fudge and the creamy Darzel Ash enjoyed with a honey and Rosemary shortbread.

Amongst the cheeses are plates of ham, chorizo and salami, alongside other plates of bite size mixed pickles.

The bottomless plate option allows you to choose from 26 different flavours. We tried our best to taste them all, but having devoured a few of them twice, we only managed 22 different ones between us. But I did discover another new favourite, a dry mozzarella which was drizzled with warm honey, chilli flakes and nuts 🥰. Heaven on a plate.

The staff are amazing and clear your plates almost as soon as you’ve emptied them, giving you room to grab the next one and the water bottles are frequently replenished, allowing you to cleanse your palette between flavours.

After an hour, we were politely given our 15 minute warning, but we were already done and couldn’t squeeze in another morsel.

As we staggered out, we had to roll ourselves towards the station, just making a small detour to the donut shop!! I promise you we were buying treats for our Granddaughters partner and our Son in Law.
